A Gift + an Invitation!

As we draw closer to the end of this year and the season of giving and light, Interwoven Congregations has a gift and an invitation for you! Let's get to the gift first!

As part of our mission to help congregations be agents for racial justice and healing, we're developing the Congregational Racial Justice Toolkit. And here's the newest tool -- Interwoven Congregations Conversation Cards!

This deck of 40 discussion cards is a great way for leadership teams, youth groups, antiracism committees, or the congregation at large to embark on a dialogue around matters of race and justice. Individuals could even use them for journaling prompts. The cards come with guidelines for their use. Request your downloadable set of Conversation Cards here.

And then, an invitation!

As the New Year approaches, I want to invite you to share in a personal and intensive exploration of the dynamic at the heart of our nation's challenge for racial justice -- white supremacy. We will use Layla Saad's penetrating text and guided journal, "Me and White Supremacy," and will employ the circle method she recommends for group study.

Two circles (max of 10 participants each) will begin the 10 week experience in February and will cover these topics.  Here is the meeting schedule for the two circles:

     Daytime Circle:  Each Monday, Feb. 10th - April 14th at 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. EST

     Evening Circle:  Each Thursday, Feb. 6th - April 10th at 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. EST

The study is designed for white participants who want to help their congregations engage the issue of white supremacy and then take action.  There are three intentions for each circle:

  • 1st:  Involve each participant in a deep, honest grappling with their own  understanding and experience of white supremacy;

  • 2nd:  Equip each participant to subsequently lead a circle at their own congregation using Saad's text and the circle method of group facilitation;

  • 3rd:  Channel our enhanced understanding of white supremacy into a renewed commitment for action in both our personal lives and through our congregations to promote racial justice and healing.

Sign up for one of the circles here.  There will be a $10 registration fee and participants procure their own texts.  Space is limited, so sign up today!
